This week I had the pleasure to invite Norwich North Constituent, Georgia Routledge, to Number 10 Downing Street for a reception honouring inspiring women in our communities.
At only 19 years old, Georgia has overcome the challenges of cerebral palsy on her right side to excel in sports, competing against able-bodied athletes throughout her life. Despite this, she has achieved remarkable success, earning two medals at a competition in Sweden earlier this year. Now, Georgia is poised to make history as the first British female Para-Standing Tennis player, and she hopes to inspire a new generation of young athletes with her determination and perseverance.
After reading her incredible story in the local press, I knew Georgia should accompany me to a reception celebrating inspiring women. Her perseverance and dedication in the face of challenges are truly inspiring. Georgia's achievements resonate deeply within our community and beyond, making her a true role model.
The event was hosted by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Laura Trott MP. Conservative Party Deputy Chair Rachel Maclean – who’s role is to encourage more women to stand for public office – was also amongst the guests.
“We have incredible women standing for parliament across the UK. That in itself is inspiration to others who might be thinking of a future in politics. These women are all very different, with different skills, stories and experiences but uniting them all is a desire to stand up for their communities and Conservative values. It was a fantastic event and wonderful to meet so many inspirational women who they bought with them as their guests,” commented Rachel McClean MP.
Laura Trott MP said, “It was wonderful to meet so many brilliant and inspiring women from across the country at Downing Street this week. Georgia is a real champion in Norwich North, and it was a real pleasure and honour to celebrate their vital work alongside Charlotte.”
